PATENT ATTORNEY & SOLICITOR

Why I like my job

I fell into IP by accident as I left University and have not looked back.  I love learning about a client’s business and working with them to understand where IP sits in their business model and planning how best to use the different IP rights to their advantage.  That might be through capturing the IP and developing a filing strategy, through to how to license-in IP created by others, or license-out the IP the business has created.

Helping others to understand IP rights and how to use them is part of my daily life – whether that is through working with clients, training their staff or teaching students at UCL or Queen Mary College London.  I also feed into education for the patent attorney profession, both in training our own trainees, mentoring those coming up to final’s exams or contributing to practitioner text books (such as the CIPA Guide to the Patents Act).  If you want to listen to me talking about IP – you can listen here – https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08tg506.

I am a Council member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, now chairing the Internal Governance Committee, having previously chaired several other committees, including the Litigation Committee and the Education Committee.

In my spare time…

Out of the office, I am to be found turned upside down in a yoga practice or, at weekends, on the golf course.

What I am looking forward to

The continued growth of Impact IP, nurturing the talents of our fantastic team and helping our clients to achieve their dreams through managing and exploiting their IP.
