What I like about my job

I have always been fascinated by science and technology, but it became clear at the end of my Chemistry degree that the laboratory was not for me! I learned about the role of the patent attorney in my final year, and quickly realised that this would be my vocation – a perfect way to stay immersed in the science whilst following a legal path.

I work with many early stage companies right from the start of their journeys and travel with them as they grow. It is such a privilege being part of this journey. No two days are the same. I can be advising on early stage inventions and the relative merits of trade secrets vs patents on one day, and defending a client’s patent from an opposition at the European Patent Office the next.

In my spare time

Having three girls, a cat and a dog at home, there is precious little spare time – however I have recently rekindled my love of languages, and am learning Spanish.

What I am looking forward to

IP and innovation will play a crucial part in the drive to increase economic growth. We are living in exciting times, and patent attorneys have an important role to play!
