Who we fit best with

If you want to work with us, then there is little information about who we fit best with.

We have two business models: one set up for direct clients, mostly UK-based and originator businesses, and one  for businesses based outside the UK (such as the US, China or Israel) who are typically IP law firms acting for their own direct clients.  More information below.

For Direct clients, our sweet spot is developing and executing an IP Strategy for spin outs and SMEs that are generating IP or have in-licensed some IP.  You might not have yet quite worked out what you need to do next in order to formulate an IP Strategy.  Or you may already have some patents and feel that you need to apply some rigour to IP capture and the decision making process around whether to file a patent, or keep it once it has been filed.  We can help you with this and have often helped our clients manage licensed IP and liaise with the license holder, as well as develop their own IP.

Alongside the tactical day-to-day patent and trade mark work, we provide an outsourced in-house experience, so frequently also deploy a mixture of:

  • IP training, competitor watching,
  • implementing IP capture processes and a suitable trade secrets system, and
  • brainstorming with your technical and commercial team to match your technology to the patents you have and determine:
    • if they cover what you need now, or in the future, and
    • if they cover what the competition are doing,
    • looking at future cost expenditure, and
    • patentability;
    • then deciding what to do with the cases;
  • maintaining your patent records and data room.

We avoid legalese and communicate with you regularly, largely in person or online.  If you wish, we prefer to compile all your actions and decisions into a single email.

We primarily work with US, and Chinese-based attorneys and help them navigate the European and UK Patent Offices, especially on local issues like priority, added matter and sufficiency.  We like to establish the commercial aims of your clients early on so that we can tailor our advice to you in a way that you can pass onto your clients.

We typically send one email per matter in a form that can be fed into your records system.

If you are a forward-thinking IP professional with a growth mindset and a desire to do things differently in a supportive culture, then please get in touch with us or drop a note on LinkedIn. See also our jobs page (in the News, Insights & Jobs section).
